Vacancy for Assistant Caretaker/Handyman

POST:                                  Assistant Caretaker   - Grade E  £16,491 pa pro rata

The post is a fixed term contract until 31/8/2018

The Governors are looking to appoint a highly-motivated and committed Assistant Caretaker who can support and enhance our learning environment and assist with the day-to-day management of the school site, ensuring a high level of hygiene and safety is maintained.

The successful candidate will be required to:
*undertake general caretaking and maintenance duties e.g. collecting waste and refuse, site maintenance, health and safety and carrying out general repairs
*work with the school cleaners to ensure internal and external areas remain tidy and safe
*Ensure adequate stock levels of hygiene products
*carry out testing for fire alarm, legionella, emergency lighting etc
*have excellent organisational and communication skills
*be willing to undertaken training as required e.g. for PAT testing
*be a point of contact for emergency call outs

The post is for 20 hours per week for 52 weeks per year 7.30am-11.30am.

Vacancy for Clerk to Governors

POST:                                    Clerk to Governors  

The post is 2.5 hours per week, term time only.

Battledown is an all age special school for pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties.

The Governors are seeking to appoint a Clerk to Governors to provide effective admin support to enable us to meet statutory obligations and fulfil strategic functions. The successful candidate will be required to clerk six full Governing Body meetings (max 2 hours) per year and 18 committee meetings (approx. 1 hour) across the course of the year. Full Governing Body meetings take place in the evening and the committee meetings are during the school day.

Someone who has current experience of clerking in education/school governance would be an advantage but not essential.

The main role of the Clerk is to:
• Manage the affairs of the Governing Body including preparing the agenda and papers for all governor meetings, arranging the meetings themselves and taking detailed accurate minutes for distribution.
• Advising the Governing Body on procedural and constitutional matters, duties and powers and work within the broad current legislative framework.
• Secure the continuity of Governing Body business which includes reminding Governors about dates, times and required documentation within specific deadlines ensuring all legal guidelines are met. This includes liaison with Local Authority Governor Support and attending relevant Governor Training and Clerk meetings.

The nature of the work requires a high level of accuracy, confidentiality and organisation with the ability to complete work to tight deadlines.  Other duties include organising and attending appeals panels and maintaining the Governor calendar.

At Battledown we have several volunteers who help children to play and learn in class and at activities such as Riding, swimming and Forest School.

All volunteers receive basic training on how we work at Battledown and additional training that is specific to the children they work with. This is an opportunity for you to meet new people and share your skills with others.
